✷  KiloType, award-winning type foundry, invited me to create an animated showcase for Plastique - their typeface referencing plastic manufacturing techniques.

The typeface's connection to plastic toy production broght childhood memories to mind. I wanted to build a world where typography and toys merge together - with each letter having its own personality and its own way of moving. I envisioned Plastique not just as a typeface, but a whole universe.

The central idea of the animation is built around personification. I was treating the characters of the typeface as actual characters. From there on, they became jumpy, glossy and plasticky little life forms inhabiting a magical landscape of childhood.

When developing the visual world, I was experimenting with textures, materials and lighting to get that glossy and tactile quality. It helped to build the world that feels synthetic and plastic, yet very much alive . Each letterform was designed as an individual, with its own traits built into how it moves and occupies space.
